Kia Ora tatou katoa,
He uri awau no Tairawhiti Whanui, a, ko Ngai Tai ki Torere-Nui-a-Rua, Ngati Kahungunu ki Te Wairoa, Te Aitanga-A-Mahaki, Ngati Porou oku Iwi.
I tipu au i Tamaki, I kuraina au i Hukarere, a, kei Te Karaka ki Te Tairawhiti awau e noho ana inaianei.
I have been appointed to the Hukarere Board of Trustees as a Proprietors representative on the board.
My professional background is in Social Services and Education management having spent many years working in the community in Waikato, South Auckland and Gisborne since completing University studies after leaving Hukarere in 2004.
I believe that all Rangatahi have the potential to achieve greatness. I also understand that Rangatahi require support and assistance to believe in themselves to reach their potential. Rangatahi Maori are unique in their worldview and when nurtured and guided correctly they are able to walk confidently in the world. This is evident in the whakatauki from Ta Apirana Ngata, ‘E tipu e rea mo nga ra o tou ao, ko to ringa ki nga rakau a te pakeha, hei ora mo to tinana, ko to ngakau ki nga toana a o tipuna Maori hei tikitiki mo to mahunga, a ko to wiarua ki to atua, nana nei nga mea katoa’ .
I believe in Hukarere being an opportunity for all kohine and Rangatahi to excel in both their culture and the multi-cultural world we live in.
As a board member, it is my ambition to ensure Hukarere is able to continue serving and supporting Young women reach their potential.
